I was wondering how many Hams are out there with Super Duties? I have a 1999.5 PSD 4X4 Ext Cab with a Icom 706 MkII remote mounted under the drivers seat and Diamond HV7 440/2/6/10. Also an Icom IC-38A with homebrew 1/4 wave antenna. I have the antennas mounted on the Ext Cab doors with Diamond tunk lip mounts. I grounded them to the window latch screws with braid. It seems to have a good ground and I was eaisly able tune the antennas and have good performance.
I am interested in hearing how others have mounted their antennas and radios I am thinking about changing the antenna installation when I get home from Afghanistan in January (I Hope ). Any comments will be great thanks and CUL

I was thinking that Ford was giving away hams when you bought a new Super Duty. Since it is the Holidays and all.

>Just a handi Talky, HT78A of course not mounted.
Hello Doug,
Well I used a Cell Phone mount from the local celluar store and mounted the HT in there. I have a IC-T81A and it fit perfect and was out of the way. I guess I am going to have to get a new mount for my wifes new truck. She bought herself a birthday present while I was here and it is a 2002 F-150 Super Crew.
Also saw your other post on the "Did You HEAR IT!!!" group and I thnk you for your comments it is our job and we will do it well as long as needed, you are welcome.
I had my PSD for about 6 months before I left and I can not wait to get back and drive it!!!!
Cell phone mount, will be getting one of those, what a great idea! Wife's got a new F150 and you get the old '99 PSD, the stuff we have to put up with:-) Mine is a '99 5.4V8, way under powered for the size of the truck. I only drive 1 mile to work and I worried that I would be tearing up a diesel with the low miles. Just because it's a slug doesn't mean that I would trade it for anything. Driving this beast does wonders for the old ego! I also live in northern Minnesota and the poor thing would spend more time warming up in my garage and at work than on the road. In a few years will be getting a newer one maybe by then I'll make up my mind on weahter or not the next one will be diesel. Really like the power of those smokers, noise is no bother either,... we'll see. Sounds like you guys have a few of PSDs over there to play with if you get too home sick, run it through the paces see what it'll do. Be safe, and again thanks for all that you guys and girls are doing to keep us safe! We will never be able to thank you enough. Happy Holidays........:-X12
While I'm not a HAM, I am VERY much into the 2 way radio hobby. I have installed in my F-350- Motorola Radius remote mount UHF 40 Watt radio, hopefully to also get a CDM1550 installed withen the next 3 or so months. I also own many Motorola portables as well, hell I might as well own stock in the company
Glad to see someone thats into radio's here as well.
Well it is great to hear from everyone. Well if any of you get through Clraksville, TN. (Ft. Campbell) Area I have a 220 repeater 224.42 and also listen on the 147.00+ and 147.390+ pl 123.0. My 220 repeater is linked to the 224.54 and 442.600 both pl 107.2 near Springfield, TN. Also listen on 146.52. Anytime you are around give a shout and maybe we can have an eyeball and cup of coffee....
Has anyone pulled down the headliner?? I am not sure if that would be easy or not. I am thinking about permanent NMO mounts but I am not sure if it like my 1994 F150 with 300 CI 6 cylinder, it had a second metal rib down the middle of the roof and made running antenna cable hard. I had bought an overhead shelf and mounted the radios there and it was great the antenna coax was short. Also that truck was a regular cab and I needed the space.
I have a 2001 SD 4x4....my hunting rig. I have a slide-in pop-up camper on the truck.
I mounted a home-brew J-pole on the cab-over section of the camper. This for 2 meters.....my wife (N0NNM) is also a ham.....and we use 2M a lot from the truck when camping/hunting.
Also have a 2M amp. in the camper......enables our HT's to kick out abt. 35 watts FM.
I have a Kenwood TM-741 tri-band radio. For antennas I have a Larsen NMO 2/70 (144/440Mhz) and a Larsen NMO 220Mhz 1/4 wave. Both are mounted on the roof- one above the dome light, the other above the cargo light. I mounted the main radio unit behind the rear seat back (supercab) and I remote mounted the control panel on the ceiling between the sun visors.

I'm Mike, KG7vL, Just bought a 02 F-350, super cab, haven't moved Icom IC-207 from old truck yet, but will put a dual band (2m/440) antenna mirror image to the am/fm antenna. As soon as plate arrive, I'll transfer the call sign plates to here in Port Orchard. WA on the F-350. I'll look at the idea of putting the remote head on the overhead, might work well. Thanks for starting the thread. 73's Mike
