What type of receiver measures 1-5/8" square?

I appoligize for asking such a stupid question but my 97 explorer has a receiver that I can't find a hitch for. I have looked at multiple local stores and can't find anything that works. A class 3 hitch is too big and a class 2 hitch is too small! Thanks for the help.

If you're talking inside measurement, I've never heard of that size - if you can't find a ball mount to fit, you're gonna have to change out your receiver hitch (preferably to a 2" Class III).

Reese made them at one time....don't know if they still do. The 1-5/8 box is a class 2 though. Had one on my 92 Dodge B250 conversion van to tow the popup with. Hope that helps. Carl

Carl -

Reese's website doesn't show ball mounts for a 1-5/8" receiver, so I guess Dave is outta luck. Do you know why Reese offered such an odd-ball size - maybe Class II-1/2?

Hmmm, that's the first I've heard of that size too. Maybe purchase a piece of 3/16" wall 1-1/4" ID square tube at the steel yard and cross drill it for the hitch pin to use as a reducer sleeve so you can use a regular 1-1/4" Class 2 reciever? I would probably just replace the hitch with a Class 3, 2" and be done with it, but the reducer sleeve won't cost much and could get you by in the mean time if you already have a Class 2 ballmount for it.

im pretty sure i had the same problem. Noone i knew had ever heard of that size, and all the auto parts stores said my truck had been rear-ended and it crunched the receiver hitch in, they said theres only 2 set sizes. Instead of buying a new receiver hitch i just bought a 2'' and sanded down the tounge until it would go in there
