The ubiquitous brown truck was made by Grummann last thing I knew.

I've always liked the sound of the UPS trucks, when the delivery man actually gets on it, they have a whistle that makes you think power adder. Thats just what I think though.

There are all different kinds....

Most are Freightliners Detroit 40 Series engines. A few are International trucks powered by the DT444/466 series engines.

The trucks in my area are all gas engines so i'd lean to believe they're the chevy, I like the fact that they've got standard transmissions in them.

Does the "Big Brown" trucks - does UPS salvage them for parts once their road life is exhausted? Never see someone driving a "Retired UPS truck"

The UPS trucks downtown are those new Dodge or Frightliner "Sprinters". But most are the traditional "Big Brown Trucks"

ups trucks

gruman bodies,combo between ford,chev,detroit power,frieghtliner chassis,pending on yr.

ups scaps there vehicles, sometimes you may be able to buy cargo box but they cut the fronts off, and you sign a agreement you will not title and won't make them road worthy

I know someone who does the body repairs on the UTZ potato chip trucks, and when they're all used up, they remove everything that is still useable, and scrap the bodies (all aluminum). Most of their trucks are Utilimaster, and they have a Cummins 4 cylinder diesel in them. There's a lot of aluminum on those things!

I read an article long ago that said UPS, unhappy with available trucks, designed their own trucks. That's why they're so unique, or at least were.
