Stupid Decisions made by FORD

Ok, This isnt suicide, but I hate to say that I think that ford has made more stupid decsions than GM, I'm not sure about Mopar though. My all time favorite was the Lightning is only available in automatic. Thats just seems really dumb. There was also the Pinto, and the Four cyl. Stang. Whats been your favorite.

I don't agree that the Pinto was a mistake. My family had owned a few of them and they were great little cars. I do agree with the 4cyl 'Stang, although technically Ford is in the business of SELLING cars, and the little Mustang II was a hot seller. Guess it depends on how you look at it.

I must agree on the lightning only coming as an auto, and also the end of production of the 300 I-6, what a shame.

Automatics are more consistent on the quarter mile and can handle more abuse than a clutch. All car companies had slow cars in the mid 70s, that doesn't make it ford's fault. The only dumb decision that they made with the pinto was to not recall the gas tank. All GM does is make mistakes (Aztek, build quality, any Camaro between 73 and the mid 80's IROC). GMC = Great Mistake Company.

I hate how they only offer special colors and no options on the lower end trims of cars/trucks. And no manual transmissions on higher end models. makes it very hard to get what you want. You should be able to order whatever options that are available on any trim of a vehicle they make.

First, the discontinuance of the FE engine family. Second, the fact that Ford wants absolutely nothing to do with it, despite the fact that it's gaining popularity nearly 30 years after it was discontinued.

Hello ford, where's the FE crate motors???

the dicontinuation of the 300 I-6 and the 302/351/460 V8s and replacing the bronco with a super-sized exploder (expedition) its rumured that the excursion will be discontinued also, at least in a few years i'll be able to afford one.

Amen.

The capri was ugly but with a 302 it was a blast light to light.

Dont they use pintos for crash derbies cause they are indestructable. Also ramblers. Isnt pinto a mexican slang word.

Selling their heavy duty truck lines to freightliner, absence of vent windows on newer trucks, independent rear suspension under explorers and expeditions, and also not allowing the lariat package on regular cab trucks.

I think the worst decisions Ford has made was to neglect their car lines. With trucks, they do great, but they're only now beginning to address the car part of their business.
*They blew it with the oval-designed Taurus, and lost the sales lead they had.
*They kept the Fox body platform around too long. The '05 Mustang redesign should have happened five years ago.
*They have neglected Mercury. If they don't seperate it more from similar Ford models, it will join Plymouth and Oldsmobile in the history books.
*They went the wrong way with the redesigned Towncar. They should have kept a boxier look.
*There's no Mark IX.
*They should have kept the Cougar as a RWD Coupe.
*Cadillac is making a come-back...Lincoln better come up with new models or they will forever be geezermobiles.

I think the Pintos were great little cars, and right for the time. I had two of them, and they both did the job quite well. They were definately better than Vegas. They had one of the smoothest shifting 4 speeds around, were inexpensive, dependable and economical. The exploding gas tank thing was overblown, IMO. Any small car that was wacked in the rear by a full-sized 1970's car would probably suffer the same fate. It was a-holes like Johnny Carson that made a whipping boy out of the Pinto. After a while the public went along with it...Pinto..Ha Ha. There weren't that many that exploded, and Ford had a recall to correct the problem, but they were still the butt of jokes. If I could find a decent Pinto today, I'd buy it as a daily driver...plus a 302 fits real nice in them.
