fluid in power brake booster?

I have a 79 f-150, that I thought needed a new booster but while disasembling the booster from the firewall I found that a part of the booster linkage was rusted solid, thus preventing my pedal from returning from the floor.
I have checked the booster off the truck & it seems to be in great mechanical condition, except for a rusty color liquid coming out of the front & back!!!!!!!! I think that it is brake fluid because the master cylinder was leaking from the rear & dripped all down the booster.
so my question is does a power brake booster have fluid in it? & if its not supposed to have fluid in it can I save it? its a preety old truck & I dont have alot of money to spend especially if I can fix something to make it work.

No, boosters don't have any type of fluid in them. The stuff pouring out is probably old brake fluid from the master cylinder.

If the booster is now working, you might be able to bolt it back up and re-use it. They usually fail by getting a vacuum leak in the diaphragm. Brake fluid will rust everything it touches, so make sure you clean everything up that you can reach. Good luck.
