Swapping Front Grill from 73-77 to 78-79

Hi All -

How much effort is involved in Swapping the older style (73-77) front grill (with the turn signals over the headlights) to the 78-79 style with the square headlights and the turn signals under?

Does the front "Fire Wall" have to change? If so, how much else is different? I know people have done this... Let's hear how you did it...

The fenders are the same, correct?

this is a pretty easy swap. You can just drill new holes in the later core support for the headlight buckets, it can just be a little tough to line it all up. Or you can swap core supports and it will all bolt together. The only difference is the headlight bucket mounts. I have done it a few times and it is very easy.

I'm going to do the opposite, put a 76 grill in my 78. My radiator support was damaged so I bought one from a bone yard with the round headlight buckets. Everything should bolt right up for me. Otherwise, as hillbilly said, you'll need to line up your new headlight buckets on the radiator support . . . not hard to do but may require a little patience.

I installed a '79 grill in my '73 and they are right - just drill two holes per side and the rest is a bolt up swap. The top two holes for the light buckets are there, just drill the two bottom ones and you're done...

Easy & fairly quick to do.....I put a '73 grill on my '78, no sweat w/ a little drilling.

Good luck!

I believe it's only narrow from the cab back, the front should be the same.
