I was wondering the history of this differential. It is a 1988 f250 with the 460 and a c6. When we got the truck in feb or so it was working well, or so we thought--- In June we noticed a clunking sound coming from the rear end which was soon to be diagnosed as the bolt that goes to the center pin sheared which complety destroyed the carrier,ringh and pinion, everything inside except the axles. So after we spent alot of money to get it fixed about 3 weeks later the bolt broke again so it was repaired under the shop warranty. A couple of days ago it made that same infamous noise, so it was towed back to the shop and diagnosed as the bolt sheared off again. Has anyone ever had a problem with that rear end or is there a way to make it better?

I have NEVER heard of that happening. Those 10.25" axles are pretty stout units, and go for many miles. I would take it to a different shop ASAP.

 

WHere do you live? I have a 10.25 full floater 4.10 gears available real cheap!
