429 or 460?
I just purchased ( at least what I thought) a 429 out of a 68 t-bird. The casting #'s on the block are "C9VE-B" and the head casting # is C9VE-A. From the information I have found on the net it seems this is a 460 out of a 1969 Lincoln Continential. I cannot find anywhere where a Lincoln was available with a 429 in 1969. Can anyone confirm this for me?

You, my friend, have one heck of a good starting place for a street build!
The casting numbers are right for a 68-69 vintage car. Chances are it's a 429. If you are lucky there is still a little metal tag under the coil hold-down screw that tells you what it is. If not, pull the pan and look for the casting numbers on the crank. If memory serves a 429 casting number will start with 4U and a 460 casting number will start with a 2Y or 3Y.

Be sure to check all the piston skirts. The 429 skirts have a nasty habit of cracking.
An easy upgrade would be to locate a 460 crank. That way when you need to bore it (if it doesn't need it already) you can use the crank for your rebuild. The extra cubes will be 30 or so free horsepower.

If it is a 429 and if you do buy a 460 crank later you will need new pistons as the 429 pistons will be out of the block with the 460 crank. The rods are the same size for both but if you plan on building it for much racing I would suggest aftermarket rods as those are usually the weak link. Not trying to scare you, it really just depends on your intended use of the engine. The 69's from what I've been told do have good blocks and heads though.
