Roll cage for 2005 F350

Hi from the Sunny UK.

We have just ordered a F350 DRW crew cab to use as back-up in the Paris-Dakar and we need a roll-cage for the inside, the Truck is still in the States and it would be great if we could get a cage fitted or just chucked in the back before being transported to the UK.

I cannot seen to find anyone in the states who makes roll cages , Maybe my English is conflicting with US terminoligy? In the UK we have many companies making race type cages for most things mainly Land-Rovers but nothing quite like this.

does anyone know where I can get one, by the time this truck arrives in the UK we will be hard pushed to knock one up from scratch

Any help appreciated and I can't wait to get this beast into the UK should make my old Chevy Scotsdale seem puny

I know this may sound crazy but Jegs sells cages, and if you call them and give them dimensions they will do custom cages, they send you a sheet with what they want for dimensions you send it back, and they make one up, can't tell you a price but if you have someone here that has access to the truck or one like it, and can measure it up for you, and send that to them and recieve the cage in the box they can then stick it into the back of the truck to be welded in when you recieve it.

You could find a fabrication shop. Where in the U.S. is the truck? There are a bunch of fabrication shops in arizona and california that make cages for desert racing and such things. I don't think any one makes a kit though.

that is also a good point, in the midwest people make cages for sprint cars, and stock cars alike, and in the south if you can find someone that fabs up cages for nascar, so basically anywhere the truck is someone can fab up a cage easy enough, also in the midwest you could try Chandler (bigfoot) he uses a Ford body although no longer a complete body but he does build monster trucks for people so he may even already have the dimensions for the F350

we make full Paris-Dakar race cars with space frames and can knock one up when it's over here , but it takes time to design and fit a cage especially as they have to be to FIA standards even for the back-up trucks.

I was hoping there might be an off the shelf option, even one that's close will do,
Does anyone know how much different the 2004 and 2005 model years are inside?

do you have an email address for the monster truck guy?

thanks for the quick replies

anyone know how fast a 6.0 diesel drw with a 4.10 diff will go? we need to beat the Merc 6x6 truck which do nearly 100mph off road.

Take a look at www.dakar-rally.com to see what we do.

The trucks have a limit in the computer that stops the truck from accelerating after 100 mph. The engine shuts off and turns back on when you slow down a bit. Theres a chip called the Diablo sport predator that raises the limiter to 120mph, you might want to check that out. I'm not really sure if the chip works for '05s though.

Probably not as fast as a 3.55 geared powerstroke. I think you might run out of revs with 4.11s.

my dad's 6.0L 04 F250 will siht-N-git. at first take off is a lil slow but when the turbo spools up a good bit there ain't much that will keep up.

on the cages issue....a lot of machine shops around here will do one up, drawback is they require the truck be at the shop for proper measurements and fitment. i would check Jegs like was said before.

i've always had good luck with these guys but they are a bit pricey http://www.cachassisworks.com/cages.htm

i have heard good things about the following companies as well:
http://www.tanner4wheel.com/fab/cage.html
http://www.guyons.com/cages.html
http://www.essentiallyoffroad.com/custom_cages.htm
http://www.cscracing.com/cf.htm

hope that helps ya

You need to talk with Dan DuBose, owner of BlueTorch Fabworks in Dothan Alabama. Dan has been building custom roll cages and full tube chassis for years. He does super top notch work and I would highly recommed talking with him.

Visit www.bluetorchfab.com or give him a call - 866-RCK-CRWL

He may also be willing to work out some type of sponsorship...

Good Luck!

Just thought I would give an Update on our truck,

Thanks for the links I have checked them out they all look good,

Unfortunately some years ago England was conned into joining the EEC and now we suffer from the legislation churned out by Brussels.

so we have something called SVA 'single vehicle approval' for registering import vehicles into the UK, and it's tough , so we have had to leave the F350 standard to give us the best chance of getting it through in one piece,

We have joined up with a team from California who also have a F350 which they will be painting in our colours , and bringing it to do back-up at the Dakar so it should look great with two F350's , I will try and post some pictures in the gallery when I return.

Enjoy your off roading , We have a maximun of one year left to enjoy the UK countryside before the 'Walkers' get the total off roading ban thru as law ....looks like it's off to Africa for us again.

Truck should land in England end of September
