Super Duty Axle Rating

I am trying to figure out carrying capacity for my V10 Excursion.

The sticker on the door refers to the stock tires. I run E range 10 plys (3100 lbs) now. I added amn extra leaf and re-arced stock leafs in a 3 inch lift for an additional 400 lbs capacity.

But I can't find the axle rating anywhere. As a super duty chassis, does the Ex have 1 ton axles? I know the Warn hub swap uses 1 ton parts.

Anybody know?

Cheers,
GeoQwest

I can't answer your question directly, but I can throw you a "curve ball." GVWR is not just a matter of rating suspension (axles, springs) components and tires. Brakes are also rated for specific service limits.

The front axle on 4x2's is rated at 4700 lbs. On 4x4's, 5200 lbs.

The rear axle on the X is rated at 7000 lbs.

The rear axle is not generally a limiting factor for the X's load carrying capacity.

Both the stickers and the manual are short on hard numbers.

I do worry about wieght and braking power. My first hard stop in my new Ex had me heading directly to the Ford shop to find out what was wrong with the brakes. Mr. Ford tested them and said that's the we they are. To this day, it takes both feet and my 6 foot frame with annual 5 months of daily professional ski patrol legs to squeeze a hint of ABS near-lockup out of the tires on dry pavement.

I use my Ex as a commercial off pavement passenger carrier. On inspection, a mobile scale can get me a fine if I'm overloaded without hard fact as to real capacities. Hopefully they haven't "Driven A Ford Lately" to know about the brakes.

Axle capacities can be found in the SUper Duty FAQ that is anchored on top of the Super Duty forum.

They are the same axles & brakes as their 250/350 brethren in most cases.

Remember the best way to get your new capacities would be to weigh the truck at each axle.

Re-arching won't increase spring capacity.

The add-a-leafs usually have a "rating" on them. Like....100lbs. per spring.

You just want to make sure where that extra 400 lb. capacity is.

But honestly, 400lbs. more even in stock form wouldn't upset the truck too much...

Thanx jschira. Can I find that number somewhere like in the manual or elsewhere that I can tell Mr Inspector at the scale?

Thanx jschira. My X is a 2000. If there is a page like the one you supplied above, I owe you a beer! Cheers.
