Diablo chip intall- ECU removal procedure?
Evening all,
First post, new member and such, I have ordered a diablo chip for my 94 f250 w/5.8.
I finally found the ECU tucked behind the parking brake assembly, but cannot see how to remove it to install the chip. I probaly have enough room access and clean the accessory port thru the panel (by removing the parking brake), but the Diablosport website recommends removal of the ECU first.
Questions:
1. is there a simple way to remove the ecu that I am just missing? (there is a post from 12/03 that mentions a procedure)
2. Can I safely install the chip with the ecu in place?
Thanks,
Derrick
PS: great site

Derrick, if your truck is like my superduty, thr ECu must first be disconnected from the engine side of the firewall. Mine too is behind the parking brake area. Take a look at my How to install a Diablo Chip in my photos gallery.
Let me know if it helps you. The biggest pain in installing the chip is scraping off the painted on goop on the connector where the ECU and Diablo chip will mount. The goop is thick, and the instructions say to carefully scrape or buff away the goop until the connectors are clean.
Too much buffing will remove the conductive coating and reaveal copper underneath. That's what you do not want to do. That will make the connectors too thin and the chip won't make a tight fitting connection. So be careful on that. That's the part that made me very nervous.
I used a multi-meter to verify the plates were clean enough to make good conductivity. I used the continuity tester.
Good luck!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help.
Ken; Sorry to be a pain, but what email address did you send the instructions to? I recieved the post notices from the board, but nothing else.
Pops: the pictures kind of give me an idea where to look, but your newer firewall looks fairly different from my 1994. But I appreciate the suggestions and the help.
