Ben, you realize that the quote you mentioned says "naturally aspirated". This means no turbo, no supercharger, etc.

Yes, and I then added that my naturally aspirated POS dodge avenger 2.0L (420a) makes 70 horsepower/liter.

Someone else then brought up forced induction, and I mentioned that several turbo cars made more, such as the late eagle talon 2.0L (4G63 mitsu), at 105 hp/liter.

The power density (or specific power output) discussed refers to V8s. It becomes increasingly difficult to keep power density up as displacement goes up. So the new 370ci HEMI has the corporations highest power density (V8s). Very impressive numbers for a cam-in-block engine.

You have picked V8 engines from the worst possible years performance wise. Using a 79 T/A to classify all old V8's as "hugely inefficient" doesn't make sense. These were low compression smog engines. There is more to an engine than HP, try making a Neon produce some V8 style torque.

You're defniitely correct about that. I used that analogy because that's the only HP figure I came up with for old carburated V8s. I realize there is much more than HP, but the point still remains that the old V8s were nowhere near as efficient as today's fuel-injected engines. I read somewhere that sometimes the mixture was so rich on some of the carbureted engines that you could ignite the exhaust! A carbureted engine will never retain a perfect mixture, and unless it's tuned often, it won't come close.

I am happy to see that manufactures are building much more powerfull engines like the 6.1 hemi but I wonder just how long we will be able to drive them. I drive a 2004 3/4 ton Dodge crew cab 4x4 at work that will really rip but with 10.5 mpg average I am glad they buy the gas!

Vey good point. The engines are thirsty these days. That doesnt affect sales at all though. People that buy 35-40 thousnad dollar trucks can afford the gas. I hope the engines keep getting better.

I still maintain that they're just straight-up incorrect. They say nothing about referring to only V8's. They say it has the highest specific output of any normally aspirated engine ever from the chrysler group.

And, if turbo engines get into it, I believe the second gen eagle talon had 210 horses from a 2.0L 4G63, which would be 105 hp/liter.

Those people need to get their facts straight.

Hmmmm...... These people need to get their facts straight? Both cars you mentioned were made by MITSUBISHI, not DC.

Actually, they're made by diamond star motors, a joint venture between chrysler and mitsubishi. And the 420a 2.0L in my Dodge IS a Mopar design. Although, you're right, the 4G63 is a mitsu engine.

They don't put the MDS in a Dodge Magnum yet..... So therefore the regular HEMI gets 15mpg, Add the MDS and its 15% better than that.

Man , you get Smileage with that combo !

Over kill ???????
Never TOO MUCH POWER !!

same as my old Boss 9 in my truck ....

Ford best up their Lightning if this makes it to the truck line ... this motor would be great in the Ram Rumble Bee truck ...

This sounds interesting ... a DOHC 6.2 in a F150 would look nice behind my F350 going to the race track

yes , Ford had 2 V8 Hemis ...
the 427 "Cammer" and the Boss 429 ....
I ran a Boss 9 in a truck , truly wicked ....
I'm building another for my 78 F150 , but , if Ford has a 6.2 DOHC crate motor in the works (I'm looking real hard at the 5.0 DOHC crate motor , cheaper than a Boss9 to build

hmmmmmmmmmmm,....
