Connecting Rod Problem

I have a 4.0 L engine from my '92 Explorer that I'm currently rebuilding and I've run into a slight problem: I took the piston rods out with all of the oil squirt holes facing to the passenger side of the vehicle. I know that the engine had been worked on before (at least the bottom end) by the previous owners (who weren't the smartest people in the world). I figured since all of the piston heads in Bank 2 were scuffed on the drivers' side (the side I think the holes should face) that having all the holes pointing to the outside was correct. However, my dad has had a guy tell him that they were right the way they were (all facing to the passenger side), one said that I was right, and one guy actually said they should all face to the inside! I believe all of these opinions were backed by some sort of mechanics' resource.

Anyway, that's my extremely long story. Can anyone help???

The oiling holes should face the opposite cylinder bank.
