Can anyone tell me why I need to run the recirculator with my A/C to get good cold air from it. If I just run the Ac through the vent without the recirculator on it just blows cool air and it doesnt cool the cab well??

I could be wrong but if you dont recirculate the air you are cooloing air that is pulled in from outside the vehicle,(its about 96 degrees here).Whereas recirculating does exactly that, cools air - recirculates it- cools it some more etc.

You need to check the vent temps.. My 04 Lariat is blowing at 56-58 degrees. That's not AC... should be in the low 40's.. I'm only at 700 miles and it's first on list when I get the oil changed at 1000 miles next week. If they can't cure it I can.. I did my 88 Bronco with Enviro-Safe, of course after a new compressor, dryer, evaporater and valve. It's a direct change over to R-134 or R-12. Cold....like you read about... I can hang a wet rag in front of the vents on the Bronco and it will stiffen. Vent temps at 31-32 degrees. We're talking headache cold...with outside temps in the 90's..

I have found this to also be true. I would tend to aggree with heavy2804 as to why the truck cools better with recirc. But it gets turned off when I shut the truck down.

kize-you're right, as long as stop & go-you have to keep pushing buttons for a restart..just like turning the OD off with the button on the shift lever, as soon as you turn the ignition off, its on (not off like the recirq) so this is what's happening!

Sorry Bad, I should have answered your question directly.. Your vent temps shouldn't change 3-4 degrees between recirculate and open fresh air coming thru the evaporator in the trucks firewall.

I have to say, the air could be more efficient in my case too. You should not have to run it on recycle to be confortable. In my trooper (owned it before my FX4) I had to use recycle to cool it down.. and then regular *not max* AC. Not the case with my F150

I have the automatic system and I've noticed that sometimes the air coming out is very cold when the truck is just started in hot weather and the fan is commanded to be on full blast. Then, after the interior cools down some and the fan speed lowers, the air coming out is just barley cool. This afternoon, I put it in manual mode, turned the fan to about medium, put recirculate on and set the temp to 60 and I never could get really cold air to come out. I don't really like the air to be just cool and the fan running at 1/2 or 3/4 which seems to be the way the auto system likes to run it.

I can fix it!

The a/c system sucks in the new f150's -- Ford told me that they can't make my truck any cooler. Just another better idea by ford

I also used enviro safe as alternative replacement on my 86 Vette. It works much, much better than 134. Super cold and easier on the compressor.

I've never had a problem with my AC, we're going on 7600 miles now. it's always cold. in fact on the hot 80-90 degree days, I usually don't even have to turn it to Max AC.

I am wondering if anyone else hears that sound coming from the engine whenever the AC is turned on. like a muffled cliking sound. I took a look, and it looks as if it's coming from the lower left corner of the serpentine belt loop (if you're looking at the engine). something there seems to start spinning and stop spinning whenever the AC is on.
Any ideas on what that is?

It is the compressor clutch turning on and off. It circulates the refridgerant through the evaporator and condensor. It is normal. My truck and car do the same.
