99 Super Duty Throw Out Bearing Issues
Hello,
I am considering the purchase of a 1999 F-250 Super Duty with well maintained 111,000 miles. The engine is the gas 5.4, the transmission is the manual 5 speed. The salesman reported a engine noise and helpfully gave me the previous owners phone to inquire. Apparently, despite being very clean and reliable all around the transmission has been dropped many times, he said 8 times to replace the throw out bearing that created a chirping noise periodically, the longest quiet run was 2 years, the shortest 2 weeks. He claimed that it quieted down after it warmed up. I live in a cold northern climate.
Has anyone experiienced this problem? Does anyone know about a lasting fix for this 99 5 speed issue? The previous owner mentioned a article that repalced the clutch with a aftermarket assembly, mentioned a company called Holeset? Apparently, Ford changed something in 2000. Any adice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a '99 with a 5 speed with no throw-out bearing issues, nor have I heard of an issue.
There is something wrong with the setup altogether I think, but would assume the mechanics would have figured it out the first time.
This is not a good sign. It sounds like there has been and still is too much pressure being placed on the bearing by a faulty slave cylinder. Did thye check the clutch's hydraulic system at all?
