1 Wire alternator wiring

I installed 1-wire alternators on my 64 F100 292 V-8 (it had a 12V generator) & my 55 Customline 272 V-8 (replaced a 6V generator with a 6V alternator).

The simpleist way I could figure out to do it is to use the wiring from the voltage regulator to the generator, connecting the heaviest (yellow) wire and tape off the ends of the others. At the voltage regulator, I bypassed the regulator, using it as a terminal strip, by changing the heavy yellow wire from the alternator to connect at the same terminal as the one that goes to the under-dash wiring. I left the other wiring connected to the regulator as they were.

To prevent the battery light on the instrument panel glowing all the time, I removed the bulb. I installed an ammeter in series in the line between the termination on the light switch and the starter switch.

Good luck.

allternator wiring help

Thanks for the advice and information. We found out the wiring diagram that came with the wiring harness had the wiring mismarked and we were running the wire from the alternator back to itself. It pay to meter the wiring before you install them Thank Pat

If buy a wiring harness for your pickup, don't buy it from Bob' f100s in Riverside Ca. The diagrams are not correct, and the connection are so poorly crimped we replace over half.
