Perfect motor for a Ranger

On the Ford Australia Site
A 4.0 DOHC VCT I-6
182 kW(244 HP) @ 5000 RPM
380 Nm(280 ft-lbs) @ 3250 RPM
How would you all like to have this pushin our little trucks. It is used as the base motor of Austrailia's Ford Fairlane. I would love to see this powerplant make it's way over here, of course it has to be proven reliable, but why do they get such a sweet motor and not us.

Stupid Ford. They get that and the 4cyl diesel in the other country's rangers. I'm sure they'd do good with a diesel over here, and the ranger could always use more power. If other manufacturer's have diesels here in small suv's and cars, why can't Ford?

That 4.0 isn't in their Janger, just the fairlane as far as I could find, but you're right about other countries. UK and Mexico both have crew cab Rangers as well.

Gas motors will always be what is offered around here so long as gas is as cheap as it is in this country. Just ask Kit z Katz (I think this is what his name is), gas is sold by the litre there, and it's about two/three times as much when you do the conversions. I too would LOVE to see a Turbo I4, I6 or even an I5 diesel. And I certainly think that they would sale alot of them here, and I think that is EXACTLY why they aren't offering them now, I mean, lets face it, oil companies control (or have a large impact) on almost EVERY area of our economy. Especially when it comes to the automotive economy.

Just my $.02... it's worth what you paid for it.

Liking that 280 ft-lbs of torque at only 3250 RPM. A worthy Ranger motor IMO.

Part of the trouble with the diesel is the sulfur levels. Europe allows much more of it in the exhaust then the EPA does in the USA. Also the cost of gas is more per mile then the diesel, so manfactures are producing diesel and turbo diesels for Europe. Inline six motors would require a longer engine compartment then are now in the trucks but I guess that could be done easly, it must be the manufacturing cost of the inline motor.

Here's the link to that motor
It's gasoline not diesel.

go to "Fairlane & LTD" and then "models" at the far right, you'll figure it out.

Not knowing much about such things, I assume that the Aussie Fairlane is a rwd and not fwd?
