95 Explorer Brake Lights


I have illumination on the 3rd eye but no brake lights on the tail lights.
I checked all fuses but to no avail what do i do ?? is there anouther fuse some place ? where do i start.

The Spelling change of *Brake* has been edited to facilitate the search feature

95 Explorer Brake Lights

Hi, I'm pretty sure that the 3rd brake light would be operated from the brake switch at the peddle. If all the fuses are good you might want to double check the bulbs, although you have likely already done that. It may be wiring. Do you have trailer wiring..sometimes that can cause it. It may also be in your steering column. Have someone stand at the rear and while your foot is on the peddle, move the signal arm around and if you have tilt..move the wheel a bit and see if the rear lights come on.

well we tried to do the steering wheel trick but to no avail, there are many relay and circuits in the rear jack panel area we thought that these might be the problem , but we do not know which one to check still at a loss thanks for the help jim

95 Explorer Brake Lights

According to the Chilton manual, fuse # 13 on the side of the dash controls the stop lights. It also controls crusie control, so if that's working, the fuse isn't the problem. I suggest checking the sockets with a test light to see if you're getting power to them.

I too had the same problem. 3rd eye worked but the right and left brake lights did not. I checked the bulbs and they looked perfectly good (not burned out) but I has some spares so I changed them anyways. Guess what...the new bulbs fixed the problem. My suggestion is to first change the bulbs regardless of how they look.

This is from the ford service cd sold on ebay:

PINPOINT TEST L: STOPLAMPS, INOPERATIVE

L1 BATTERY FEED TO LAMPS

Remove a stoplamp bulb.
Have assistant press brake pedal.
Check for battery voltage at lamp socket battery feed terminal (Aerostar R/LG, Ranger, Explorer, BR).
Is battery voltage present?
Yes
GO to «L2».
No
If vehicle is an Explorer with lamp outage system, GO to «L3». On all other vehicles, REPAIR open in lamp feed circuit.

L2 COMMON GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK
Set headlamp switch (11654) in park lamp position.
Are park lamps ON?
Yes
CHECK both bulbs for a broken filament on Explorer models equipped with lamp outage module, GO to «L3».

No
REPAIR ground circuit.

L3 STOPLAMP FEED TO LAMP OUTAGE MODULE
Disconnect wiring at lamp outage module.
Have assistant press brake pedal.
Check for battery voltage at module connector terminal 14 (LG).
Is battery voltage present?
Yes
GO to «L4».

No
REPAIR open in wire between module and stoplamp switch.

L4 ISOLATE MODULE
Connect jumper between module connector Pins 14 (LG) and 15 (R/W).
Press brake pedal.
Do stoplamps come on?
Yes
REPLACE lamp outage module.

No
REPAIR open between module connector and stoplamps.
