Can I swap an AOD out for a C6.....?
I have an '89 Bronco with 302, AOD and push-button operated transfer case. I know there are C6's that'll bolt up to the 302, but I don't know about the transfer case.
Is there a C6 that'll bolt in without having to modify anything? If so, what model(s)/year(s) would be the source?
Or would it require a different transfer case?

Fuel mileage doesn't concern me, but I still need the case length for the AOD tranny to find out if I need to change the driveshafts on my '89 Bronco.
The C6 in my '79 Bronco is a real workhorse. Overdrive on the AOD is a nusiance. When I need to go on the interstate, I drive my wife's '95 Sable SW.

Also the BW1356 does mount to a C6 (UGh, I hate that pos tcase in mine) So you should have no worries. Drop it in, and go wheelin'

*edit* The C6 from your 79 won't match up to your 302, so you'll have to find another one....
If you're yilling to drive to AZ...............I've got one.

The larger tires only help to a point. If stopping and going is something you do then it will hurt you because you will no longer have the get up and go but on the highway it will bring the rpm's down. Most claim the too large of a tire will hurt because it takes more to turn it.
If I found an AOD that was a sgood as my C6 I would swap. I only drive my centurion around town and on road trips. No hauling either so an OD would be helpful to me.

Okay, if I read things right, a C6 for a late model 351W should bolt right up to the 302 without any other mods to the transfer case, driveshafts or anything else (except the shift quadrant and I can live with that). If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Otherwise, the next task for the '89 Bronco after I get it back from the shop is the transmission.

Something to consider when swapping out from the AOD....
C6 internal frictional losses? 67 hp and up....
AOD...40hp....
Loss of ovedrive...up to 3-4 mpg, plus 1-3 for the extra frictional drag when using the C6...
The small block C6's were barely any stronger than a 4x4 AOD....and it does not take much to beef up an AOD.
