4.0 Mazda, Air Intake Question
hi. i have been looking around the internet for a cold air intake for my 2000 mazda b4000 with a 4.0. the only thing i can find close to it is the k&n filter thing (the cone filter w/ attachment) which is like 200-some dollars. if i was gonna spend that much i'd want the tube too. i have some friends that have drilled holes in the bottom of their air box's to allow more air to come into the factory air box. i have a k&n filter in there now (just the regular flat one) and just wondering if this is good/safe/worth my time to do. i have 4.10 gears in the back which is great for rootin and towin and burnouts, but when i get above 2.5 rpm's, it just slacks off, so i'm looking for midrange to high end hp/tq gains. i know this may sound a ghetto way to suck in more air, but i'm asking ya'll before i do it and potentially mess it up, cuz you all know u're stuff. thanks!

i took out the factory silencer and shroud around it and that GREATLY improved my hp gains. they hit the spot, i can hear it kicking in around 3k RPM. i then drilled more holes in the bottom of the airbox facing forward as to not suck in hot air from the engine, and could notice a difference from the start.

I went with the Magnaflow Stainless Cat Back Exhaust system along with doing the Air Box mod w/K&N filter. The Exhaust gave it better breathing, and the air box mod gave it more air than the stock set-up. I'm still waiting for K&N, Volant, or AF1 to come out with their Air Intake system for the 2004 4.0L SOHC engines. Big improvement with just these two mods!!
