fuel filler hose 94-97 rangers
Has anyone had any problems with the fuel filler hose on their 94 thru 97 ranger? Here in the Phoenix , az many people are not passing emissions because they fail the vapor or vacuum test. THe rubber part of the fuel filler is cracking on these. The dealer wants $243! And the wrecking yards all say they get tons of calls for them and usually it is the first thing to sell. This sounds like something that should have been recalled. And now ford is taking advantage of the situation by charging this outrageous amount!
I am still looking for a decent used one just to get past emissions or I might repair the one I have somehow.

If you need to pass emissions in a pinch a simple piece of tape should keep it from leaking, but clearly this is not a permanent solution. If you want to fix the one you have properly, use RTV or something similar and an implement you can spread it with, like one of those big *** Popsicle sticks, and spread the RTV over the entire hose. It's flexible and inert, I've dropped a piece of RTV into various concentrated strong acids and it just floats on the surface. At any rate, if you just want a new one, just find it online, I hate to say it, but it's sometimes the only option...

Unfortunately, that aftermarket part I purchased in about 2014 started leaking substantially again now in 2017. The outer rubber hose cracked again where it attaches to the tank. I suspect that outer hose just isn't rated for gasoline or ethanol. I tried to find a genuine Motorcraft part--assuming it would be of higher quality since the original part lasted 16 years--but can't find it anywhere. I ended up purchasing another aftermarket part on Amazon that, unfortunately, has reviews from folks who say it rots out again in 3 to 4 years. *Sigh*.
Anyone have access to a better part?

I got mine from autozone and it has been a few years now with no issues. Also got their fuel pump as the original had about 200K on it so preventative maint while the bed was off, truck now has 300+ on it.
It just that the hose is squashed down so the bed can fit and it causes the rubber to crack and leak. High heat doesnt help the situation either

I have three b4000's ('94,'95,'97) and every one has cracks in that outer hose. I purchased the entire filler neck on ebay to replace the one in the '97 back in July for $31 shipped. Holding up so far. Search part number 122097952541, but confirm with seller it will fit your truck. Autozone sells both the outer hose (for $99) or the whole thing for $144 with lifetime warranty on both so even if it rots again, you can just swap it for a new one. Advance might have it, too, but I have probs with them honoring their warranty.
You could try wrapping the existing hose with a self-fusing silicone (rescue) tape, but I'm not sure if it's gasoline resistant.
