Need input on ceiling height for hoist

I'm in the process of planning my garage and I need input on the height needed for a two post, above ground hoist. I would like to have the ceiling height at about 10 1/2 feet, but am concerned about not having enough height. Due to restrictions on building code, I'm limited to under 12 feet for ceiling height. Any suggestions? Thanks

You need 12 feet for a lift so you could either recess the floor or make the celing 12 foot. I only have 10'4" so it is aggervating to use lift but possible.

I think some of the old posts here have discussed 12 or 14'.

Yiu can use "scissor" trusses where the lift is going to be, this will still alow 10 1/2 ft at eaves but higher towards the middle, aim for 12' ht. for the lift. But first check on specs for lift, you might want to plan on a thicker slab of concrete where the lift is going.

Just did a pan ceiling type truss in one bay of my new garage -- very similer to GLR's suggestion. The walls are 10' at the eaves and just over 12' in the center 1/3 of the span. I went overkill on the cement too. Check with your potential lift suppliers for minimum concrete specs. I went for a floor that's probably double the strength they recommended but I think it's worth it.
