Hood won't open!!

Please help. I cannot get my hood to open, 59 Ranchero. It has the forward opening hood. I have the release cable pulled as far as it will go, I have tried to push down on the hood, it is solid as a rock. There is no room for me to get my fingers in to try and lift it. I have 292 so getting at it from below is a no go. Any ideas??
Thanks, Ray.

can you here any noises when you pull the cable? any kind of clicking or anything?
is the car wrecked at all?
has it been sitting for a long time?
does the cable feel like it is pulling?
how about pulling the inner fender, would that give you enough room to see the latch?
the cable may have slipped off the latch, or the latch may just be stuck.
try prying up on it with a wide blade putty knife , like the ones sheetrock finishers use.

Jim, the cable is stuck out as far as it will go. I did not feel anything release when I pulled it out. Yes it has been sitting for a long time. I will look at the inner fender in the morning, I don't think the putty knife will work but I will try anything. I will let you know if I get open. Thanks, Ray.

SUCCESS!! I soaked the release area with "breakfree" and was able to work a huge screwdriver in and pry the release. YeeHa!! Thank you for the help, Ray.

No, I am pulling it for a possible rebuild. I will know more once I get a look inside. This will be my first Y-block experience.
