Exclamation Extra Volts

I checked the volt reading at the battery the other day and got a reading of 14.7 volts. is that to high, and should I get a different regulator?

A normal charging system operates between 13.8 and 14 1/2 so I would think you are fine

My 85 F150 charges between 14 and 14.8 volts. You battery is 12 volts so if you charged at 12 or 12.5 volts your battery would eventually go dead when using headlights or heater for example. Sounds good to me......
