I had a diagnostic done on my Ranger because of it sputtering under acceleration, the shop told me it needed new plugs - Done, new wires - Done, new DPFE sensor - Done, also before any of this I put on a new fuel filter and I checked the MAF sensor, looks good. Well now I 've got good acceleration but an extremely rough idle. I'm not sure of my next step, I looked for vacuume leaks didn't find any, should i replace the EGR?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Before replacing the EGR valve, try resetting your PCM. You can do this by disconnecting your negative battery terminal, turning on your headlight switch, and wait about 10 minutes, before connecting back the battery terminal.
Are you currently getting any "check engine" lights? Was the idle OK before the new parts were installed?
You said you looked for hoses or electrical connectors that might have gotten knocked off during the recent tune-up. That is first thing to do.
Also, keep in mind that it usually takes some driving time for the PCM to re-learn the several different operating strategies it uses, including idle strategy, after it has been reset.
You might consider the IAC valve as a possible cause of the bad idle ...first basic test is to unplug the electrical connnector and see if the engine stalls or nearly stalls.
I did undo the neg cable but didn't turn the headlights on, and I did get a new check engine light after I cleared the computer, as far as idle, if had a skip in it, same as when it was under acceleration before but not a rough idle. I'll check the IAC, I believe I tried that before repairs and it died, I assume if it stalls or dies when unplugged it is working properly?
And thanks for the welcome and information!
