What's your thought on undercoating?
I'm thinking about getting my truck undercoated by the same guys who sprayed in my liner. Anyone one else have this done. I'm currently stationed in Florida and my only concern is the salt that's in the air and the sea-spray when I'm at the beach. I've looked under my truck already and of course some parts of the rear diff/ length of driveshaft and some scratched portions of the frame have some surface rust. I'm also considering doing some minor spot-sanding, spraying some galvanizing primer and covering it in a coat of black paint. What's you're opinion. Oh, when I get out of the military I'll be back home in Fort Worth Texas where we don't have to worry about salt.

What kind of undercoat is it? Is it different than the one offered through the Ford Dealerships?
I was planning to get the one through my dealer (warrantied for 10 years against rust). It costs $299 and is good at any Ford Dealership. I am also in Florida in the military (live in Navarre).

Undercoating
vtn98,
You ever go to Super Truck Accessories on Mary Esther Cutoff/98? It's similar to their spray-in liner. I had them to my bedliner last week and watched them undercoat a new BMW. They did an excellent job with the liner and my other installs so I might just go through them. Who quoted you the $300. Was it Gulf Breeze or Gary Smith. Super Truck is asking $150 for theirs. I'm just wondering if it's really necessary or am I just wasting some green on my truck.

I am buying my truck through Orville-Beckford In Milton. From what I've seen pricewise, it is very comparable especially with the 10 year warranty. I did check out the Super Truck accessories (I thought it was on 98 by the Eglin Pkwy turnoff). The only thing I didn't like about theirs was that even though they offered the warranty, it wasn't nationwide. Being in the military, I don't want to have to come all the way back to their shop to get service on a problem.
I actually decided to go with a Speedliner spray in over in Pensacola. They are also getting my ARE LSII tonneau, and also going to do my vent visors, bug guard, Viper alarm, XM satellite radio, Nifty catchall floor mats, window tinting.
Looking to eventually get a new intake (possibly Airaid) and exhaust (can't decide between Borla or Magnaflow).
I should be getting my truck delivered this week sometime. Lariat SCrew, 4X4, 3.73 LS, Power rear slider, trailer tow package, heated seats, DVD player, Audiophile with 6-disc in dash, front captain's chairs, pretty much everything but the moonroof.

I decided to get the undercoat through my dealer. Reason is, if Ford does it, I can go to any Ford dealership in the nation to get it taken care of. A lot of people have noticed significant surface rust under their trucks and it is pretty noticeable since the trucks are so high up. I may be wasting my money, but it gives me peace of mind for at least 10 years.

I had the undercoating applied to my truck when I bought it. I think it is well worth it. Being in Ohio, we have TONS of salt on the roads in the winter. I didn't have the undercoating done on my previous truck and it looked so nasty after a couple years with all the rust. We'll see what this truck looks like underneath in a couple years, but I am sure that I won't see any rust like I did on my previous truck.

Undercoating
Hello: I just purchased a F-250, 4x4 ..I was wondering the same; undercoating or not. I have a 1986 F-150 that I got undercoated when I bought it and today it has quit a bit of rust. It is old, but I think the key is keepimg it washed. My reasoning with my new truck is to rinse it often. If it's undercoated, then I may be just eroding it with the cleaning. I've seen some new undercoating that looks a little light near the seams and hard to reach places. Anyway, I'll need to act quick, I have 130 miles and need to decide soon. Any ideas.....thanks

Yeah, I was stationed in Tampa and had my Maverick undercoated. The spray won't stop any rusting that has already begun. Get a good wash on it first.
My opinion is it's still a waste of money because the salt there is in the air. My car rusted anyway...from the inside out, not the outside in. Under the hood, in the door panels, and cavities.
