Frame to bed height?

Hello again!

I’ve been away for a while, but this month things should go back to normal, and I’ll be bothering you all again. I miss FTE a lot! Every chance I have, I came here to read some posts.

A few weeks ago I began to work on the 1962, I mean, the 1956 style F100 , again. I’ll soon have to take its bed out to do some repairs under it. Since I’m going to take it out, I’d like to correct another problem. I think the bed is sitting a bit low on the frame. Is there a way to know if it’s really sitting low, or if it’s just my imagination?
I was thinking about measuring from the top of the bed to the lower part of the rear window, and comparing with other people’s trucks… Do you suggest an easier way to do this?

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Best regards,
Lobo

PS I’m sorry for my bad spelling and grammar… I think my English got a bit worse since my last post.

I think new bed mounts are available and shouldn't cost too much. That may be the cheapest answer.

Thumbs up

Welcome back Lobo, The four primary connection points will need rubber shims. They come in a kit with both thin and thick. The height is not so important as the levelness of the bed. Mine needed a thick rubber under the driver side front corner to make the bed level with the cab. On mine, I could see one of the indented ribs on the rear driver side of the cab but not on the passenger side. It looked bad until I shimmed it. Good luck, John

Thank you very much for your answers!!

Darkman, I'll check the bed mounts. The bed is almost brand new, but it's not Ford made... I really regret not being at the shop when they took the wooden bed out to install this one. There could be anything wrong with it....

John, I'll also check those rubber shims. The bed level is good, but one of the reasons I'll be taking the bed off, is to check where all the noises it's producing are coming from. Then, I wouldn't be surprised to find no rubber shims left when I take that bed off. Next weekend I'll try to find out what's wrong with it, and I'll let you know.

Again, thank you very much for everything,
Lobo
