Question 98 Ranger 2.5 Plug Swap tune up.

I am attempting to change the plugs in my 1998 Ranger 2.5 litre. Here's the challenge. The 4 cylinder has 8 plugs, I was able to change the 4 on the passenger side, no problem, got the front two on the drivers side, no problem, but the back two on the drivers side are under the fuel injection system. Any clues on how to get those plugs swapped. Is there a trick I am missing? Can I go in through the bottom? The truck runs much better after changing the first six plugs but I'd like to finish the the job.

I'm about to tackle this myself. How did you finally get those last 2 replaced?

Hope you didn't have to pull the manifold

removing the manifold is the quickest and easiest way to change those two plugs. if you dont want to remove it then you can use some long extentions and a universal joint extention on your ratchet. it can be done just take your time. if you need more info do a search of this forum and you will find several threads on this topic.

I pulled the upper intake on my 95 2.3L. It is not that hard to do and the overall job is a lot easier.

I had that problem on my 99 ranger ....was worth the $50 bucks to have someone change all of them out in about an hours time!

I took this thread as a personal challenge so this past weekend I set out to replace all 8 on my '98 B2500 without removing the upper intake. It wasn't that bad, I could do it again much faster now that I know the drill. You can actually get to both plugs thru the intake without a u-joint (which lessens the risk of breaking the plug). I was also replacing the wires and getting the wires in and out was harder than doing the plugs themselves.

Oh, yeah, for those of you who are looking for the PCV valve on this engine, I found it by looking straight down between the #1 and #2 spark plugs on the left (driver's) side of the engine. It is NOT in the valve cover.
