Engine life with a chip

Seems everything in life costs something. Does moding your PSD shorten engine life alot/any. Are some mods better/safer that others, I realize this doesn't matter to guys that trade their trucks in every few years but this is my hunting/fishing truck and only gets better with age (more dings and stratch it has, the more places you'll take it) so I'm hoping to see 2 or 300000 miles before it gives up. Thanks for any input

As long as you keep up on your routine maintenance, a chip shouldn't effect engine life at all. These engines are built to handle it but will only live a long happy life if you do what you're supposed to. Go ahead and chip it, you'll wish you'd done it sooner!

..............These engines ....were Never meant to be Raced. They were designed to be Worked and treated with an attitude that understands that a diesel is a work horse, Not a race horse. If, you could buildup a database of the commercial version of the 7.3 which had , had regular maintenance and compare them against the 7.3's that had been chipped and raced I feel certain that the differences in longivity and malfunctions of major engine subsystems would become manifest in short order. There is NO free lunch and an engine that is left stock and had regular maintenance should outlast an engine that is run like a gasoline engine.........s.kuteman
