loose steering

I have a 1988 BII 4x4, 2.9, automatic. The steering feels loose. It does have a little play in the steering, but just feels too easy to steer. Is there any way of making the steering stiffer? Thanks

Mine had a little slop in it that turned out to be a bad ball joint. Bad tie-rod ends or anything else loose in the suspension or steering components could cause the steering to feel loose. 1st thing would be to make sure everything is tight.

If your steering is loose in the wheel itself, up and down, take the plastic off the column (upper and lower) and tighten the 2 bolts. Mine were about halfway backed out. Really made a big difference. Hope this was what you were talking about.
