They varied over the years/models, Nate.
1942 motor would have had 3 1/16" bore and was rated at 90HP.
1948 bore was 3 3/16" and rated at 100 HP. (48 was a crossover year - cars had this engine, trucks rec'd an updated version with some major changes, but HP remained the same)

Do the coolant pipes come out of the top-center of the cylinder heads (38-47 truck)or off the front (48-53 truck)?

It also depends on whether the engine is from a Ford or a Mercury. If memory serves me, the Ford flatheads were rated at about 10% less than the flatheads that went in the Mercury. I believe the difference was in bore and not stroke.

Somebody correct me on this if I'm wrong. My last flathead was a '51 Merc I sold in '61.

You are right about the Ford/Merc difference in HP. The last few years of Ford were 100HP and the Merc had a whopping 106HP! The bores were the same (3 3/16"). Ford has 3 3/4" stroke, Merc has 4" stroke. ...Terry
