Propane injection

Ok you guys have got me going. So I called a local propane dealer and asked how much a tank was?? I thought $100.00 or so for a 20 to 30 lb tank, he comes back on the phone and tells me there $400.00+ for the tank. I said I want a 20 to 30lb tank not 500lb tank he said that is a small tank up to 100ls and then it goes up from there. I said for that much I'll kust use a BBQ tank and I will put it in the back of the truck.
So where do you find a tank that's not going cost as much as the system...
Thanks for the help guys..
Joe
P.S......... P.S. 97 You guys are playing with fire there. Just wait till you melt the pistons and if it happens when you on a run and the oil gets in to the act it's going to be one hell of a BBQ.....
Just my 2 cents...

I have been looking into propane myself Dr Joe. I am just going to use the propane bottles from either my old camper we are retiring or a BBQ I was given. At least tank and maybe the regulator is still good on BBQ. Maybe both tanks together for double the amount; depends on how much I use after I get going with it. I would go to a used camper store or ask friends and family on unused or junked campers. Some of them have fairly big bottles, bigger than my 10 on the 1970 Playmor I have. For $400 you can buy a used 500 gal at even $0.80 ! If you go the salvage route, be careful and unhook yourself with heavy duty rubber gloves elbow length. Been around propane all my life and it can "freeze" your skin just like frostbite on a spill or drip!
I am going a simplistic DIY job since it will only cost me about $5 to $7, maybe $35 to $50 if I get fancy with it. If you go that route let me know, I would like to know your control procedure ideas and prices.

I spent more on my tank than I really needed to, but I didn't want to give up the bed to BBQ tanks. I mounted a 9.9 gallon Manchester under the bed of my truck, where it's out of the way. Here is a pic of the tank. 9.9 gallons doesn't sound like a lot, but I get 2500-3000 miles from a tank of LP, and it only costs about $14 to fill it up. That's a lot of fun for $14.
A friend of mine has used BBQ tanks for years, with no problem. You'd want two that are siamesed to give you enough volume for prolonged use. A single BBQ tank simply can't vaporize enough LP to keep the pressure up.
