Ford 5.4L V.S. Chevy 5.3L

load
Uncle has 5.4 triton and I have a 5.3. I've put a wet cord of wood in the bed and a cord in a 16' horse trailer. Springs were flat. Never had an issue towing if you do it properly. That 5.4 has had flay springs since he has owned it. Never has a problem. Only thing I can say is the 5.3 has a smooth take off and the 5.4 entec navigator I have will snatched you into the back seat. Aside from that, it's just comfort and appearance

I'll dig up this old thread and comment
I own a 2001 5.3 4x4 1/2 ton with 3.73s. I just bought a 2003 5.4 4x4 3/4 ton with 3.73s.
That 5.3 has been a soldier. I have pulled trees out of the ground, seen trees pulled up sandy embankments, and walked it through mud that ate powerstrokes. The truck has 300,000 miles on it and I'd trust it for another 300,000. However! A close friend owned the truck before me and I had a 2008 4.2 4x2 ford with 3.55s. We were both pulling CJ7's on trailers. He couldn't keep up. Said it was constantly searching for gears and redlining. Years later I towed my ski boat a couple hundred miles with the chebby on the interstate, and tow/haul didn't do much. It had trouble...I had to put it in 3rd gear and turn on tow/haul to keep it from trying to burn up the transmission with all the shifting.
I just bought the 5.4 and it's a standard trans, so I expect it to tow considerably better, but unloaded it feels nowhere near as "peppy" as the 5.3.

It's certainly not a dog. But it doesn't have that extra oomph....and that makes sense that it's heavier

so... i own a silverado half ton 5.3.... n i honestly dont know how u could complain about this truck. i mean i have put a lil money into it. magnaflow, cam, intake. but even before that. more than enough power. i have taken it through things tht ive seen and passed four wheel fords dodges and chevys in. water over the hood. this truck jus will not die. i have 398 on the original motor and have had no major problems with it wat so ever. ive hit 6 grand countless times and been there steady through many a mud hole. i hauled dual hay wagons at one time with 200 square bales a piece on them quite a few times and have yet to even hear the faintest of a knock tick or sputter. given the fact that even tho i beat the crap outta it. shes still my baby n i take care of her veryyyyy well afterward. and i mean verrryyyy! good care of her. shes my baby and ik for a fact that that pretty lil chevy sitting in my driveway will never let me down.
I get what you mean, a few of the farmers have them and they seriously don't die. A few have over 400K miles and have been to hell and back. One guy snapped his frame getting out of a ditch but other than that those trucks are beasts. Granted I'll still take my 1997 f350 over it any day. But I've never been happy with the 5.4 Triton, they have horrible gearing and no top end power.
