Coolant in 2002 F250 Superduty v10
I just received my 2002 F250 SD, SC, SB,4x4, 6.8L v10, Lariat (w/ the offroad package, manual hubs, towing package and camper package) 2 weeks ago and I love it! First 500 miles, 11.5 mpg/city, 14.75 mpg/hwy!!!
I'm a happy boy!!!!
Now to my question:
The cooling system is currently filled with yellow-colored Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant meeting Ford Specification WSS-M97B51–A1.
My question is/was, can I mix regular antifreeze with the coolant currently in the truck? - I just got a call back from Ford, and the answer is no! The Mootorcraft Gold is not compatable with either the Green or the Red coolants currently on the market....
Does anyone know where I can buy a compatable coolant? - Ford says you can only get it at the dealership (Ford PN: VC-4A. The price at the dealership where I bought my truck is $7.27/gallon . Could be worse I guess.....
Thanks for your time....
Thanks!

i am not certain about this but, i beleive that prestone 5/150 extended life antifreeze will work. when you open the jug it is orange but i am sure it turns yellow when mixed 50/50 with water. if i am wrong somebody tell me but i am pretty sure that this is right.

I've already seen 10.00/gal at the dealer so your price doesn't seem too bad.

Do you need coolant now? If so, make the dealer supply it under warranty. Otherwise, I'd just wait a while- until you need to change- and see if the manufacturers start turning out a supply. The price will probably drop quickly when they get everything squared away.

I just want to keep a gallon handy in case I need to top things off during the next 5 years. As hard as it is to find, I don't want to wait until I need it and then my truck has to sit idle while I go looking for it....
Here's more information regarding the Motorcraft Premium Gold coolant.....
The Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant is Fords answer to the long life coolants. It is suppose to last 5 years or 100,000 miles. The service tech I talked to was emphatic that we DO NOT want to mix the Gold stuff with either the Green or the Red/Orange.
Per a Ford Modified Vehicle Engineering Bulletin (QVM Bulletin No. Q-79 dated February 18, 2002) Ford started putting the coolant in all E-Series and all F150-750 trucks starting in July 2001.
According to the bulletin, Ford recommends not mixing the green stuff with the Gold stuff until they complete their internal compatibility tests - the bulletin references a TSB 02-3-4 for additional information (I was not able to find a copy).
They dealer ships I have talked to have given me the part number for the green stuff and a part number for the red stuff (and tried to sell me both ) but their computer says nothing about the Gold stuff.
According to the bulletin, the service part number for the gallon containers is VC-7-A (VC-7-B in Oregon) - Neither of the Raleigh/Cary dealerships here in North Carolina were able to give me this information - they are suppose to get back to me tomorrow.
The dealer is suppose to have this coolant in stock in the gallon containers... At a later date (sometime 2nd quarter 2002) they are suppose to be able to provide it in 55 gallon drums (number VC-7-C).
The saga continues

Texaco makes the coolant for Ford.
DO NOT use the Orange coolant, known as OAT. It is corrosive to the coolant passages, seals, and gaskets in a Ford system.
Testing is not completed on mixing Green and Yellow, but if you were in a pinch, you can mix both, or, flush your system of the Gold, and revert to green. But...never, ever, ever, never use the Orange in your Ford.
The Premium Gold will be showing up on the aftermarket soon enough, as Ford is converting 100% to Premium Gold.

Is made a mis-statement. Valvoline has the aftermarket coolant- Zerex Heavy Duty.
Long life coolants are being implememnted to try and keep the cooling system sealed up for as long as possible. THe conventional green coolant does not have some of the same inhibitors in it that the new Premium Gold does.
