Sounds a little low, unless you 'hotrod' a lot. The archives show more in the 19+ mpg for the Powerstroke.
I just did a 2200 mile round trip from Northern California (Eureka) to Southeast Utah (Moab) in my 2002 F-250 CrewCab, SB with a V-10 and averaged 14.6 mpg. Lots of mountains, sea level up to 7800+ feet, the up and down from 4000 ft to 7500 ft for 500+ miles. And this was on a new unbroken-in engine (680 miles when I started). On one flat no wind section (200 miles) I got 17.8 mpg! Obviously I'm a pretty happy camper with this new truck. My '89 F-350 (460 engine), gets 7-9 around town, 10 highway (unloaded at 65mph),12 highway (unloaded at 55mph)and 11 highway (towing 7000 lbs at 55mph). I get 12.7 mpg around town with the '02 V-10. All mileage is actual calculated mileage plus or minus 3%.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Apr-02 AT 01:17 PM (EST)]Actually sounds pretty close. Have a 1999 F350 dually Superduty PSD auto. 4.10 gear. I get 14.8 back and forth to work. On the hiway, under 60 it is almost 20. If you get over 60mph it falls off very badly to mid teens again.

The PSD mileage reports I have seen are extremely variable. Some guys only report getting 10-12 mpg while others claim 18-20. My buddies get 13.5-17 mpg in three different PSD's. The highest figure is for the 2wd the other 2 are 4wd. I do think over 65 mph all of the SD's mileage will drop due to lack of good aerodynamics. I did a test at different speeds with my V10 and noticed a big drop-off in mileage after 65 mph.
Also, I heard from other PSD owners that they shift UNDER 2000 rpm, and this helps their economy.

Your MPG is about right. I have A 2000 PSD, f350 crew/LB, 3:73 gears. Around town I get 12 to 13mpg, on the highway keeping the tach under 2k MPG goes to 17.5 +/-. The key to good PSD mileage is keeping your tack under the 2-Grand mark at all times.
I word of advice... Keep your foot to the floor and enjoy the power your PSD will produces.

Maybe the difference is because of the transmission?? If my bad memory is right, most of the posts regarding low PSD mileage have been from people with the auto. I have the 6-speed, and right of the lot I was getting 18+ mpg to and from work (about 14 miles), and just around town driving. That was on stock tires of course. Right now I'm getting 14.5 mpg because of my fat tires.
