Im goin to buy a Gibson swept side exhaust for my 4.2. I was wanting to know if all I need is just the exhause to improve my hp? Would I need to buy a new intake also? Thanks
Not really. Yes, an intake would make your exhaust and engine perform much better than just the exhaust. No, you don't need an intake to play off the exhaust for more hp. (Especially not a Gibson IMO) Go for it.
Keep in mind: Let's say the Gibson gives you 10 hp's. An intake gives you 10 also. That's one without the other. With both working off each other, you would get more than that...say 20 - 30 toghether.
roger that true 4.2. i noticed an increase in power with my intake alone, but when i put my exhaust on it was like i multiplied that power increase by three. air in faster+air out faster=much more hp.
does the muffler produce more resistance than the cats...or do flowmasters, gibsons, etc just remove one more aspect of resistance. It would seem like to get the full effect of HP you would have to run straight pipes.
I knew it was illegal...but from a tech aspect I am just curious if the cats cause more resistance than the muffler. if thats the case why dont more guys run high flow cats with there exhaust.
if i could, i would throw high flow cats on my truck right now, but here in georgia you can't change the cats until they have sixty thousand miles on them or until they become clogged up. whichever comes first. so if i put high flow cats on now, it will not only be illegal but it would also void my warranty.
