that is not true. while most hiboys have divorced transfer cases, trucks ordered with full time 4 wheel drive got mated transfer cases. a supercab is automatically not a highboy as they were not available until after the frame change in mid 77. the hiboy got its nickname due to the frame design which was different than regular trucks and was discontinued part way through the 77 model year. the hiboys can easily be identified by the ladder frame design which is a few inches narrower than other ford trucks. this means that many components that bolt to the frame are different. the most obvious is the bed as the mounting bolts are closer together. hawkrod

The last 1977 F250 4WD (High Boy) was assembled BEFORE serial number Y20,001.
F250 4WD's assembled FROM serial number Y20,001 are not High Boys.
Since Y20,001 occurs mid-model year 1977, this is where the so-called 1977.5 comes from.
Ford never called any 1977 a 1977.5.
All High Boys have rear frame rails that are 33 1/2" apart. The non High Boy rear frame rails are 37 1/2" apart.
