cralks but won't start
I just bought a1986 f-150 and It will crank but wont start my fauther-in-lay told me it is most likely my points any ideas please help!!!! I haven't got the truck yet I am picking it up on Monday I just want some ideas to look for.

I just went through the same thing with amy 82 GMC. There are many things you could look at.
Make sure there is spark, If not, make sure there is power to the distributer. If there is power to the distributer and no spark, good luck. I ended up just buying a rebuilt distributer and that solved the problem. I know there is probably a better way, but I figured if I was keeping the truck, it was a bonus, if not, the next guy would be happy.
Note: the rebuilt distributer came with everything but cap, rotor, and coil. Thats why I went that route. It only ended up costing an extra $30-40 and the distributer is under warranty
