My 1994 300-6...

Hey guys,
I have recently bought a 1994 F150 with a 300-6. I was going to ask about a couple of problems, and about a couple of extras...
1.My horn does not work. I have checked the fuses and the relay switch and it's not the problem.
2. the airbag light seems to blink rather annoyingly, i have cjecked the fuses and the any rrelays.
3. I was wondering if a 3" exhaust system would be a good idea if I put a K&N filter on it also.
4. Do you guys know of any super or turbo chargers fo rhtis engine?

Thanks Alot

Tyler, I have the same truck thats had that blinkin light--horn no work thing for a couple years---The code of 2-3 or visa-versa I dont remember which, is loose or dirty connection at connector. The dealer wants $120 to troubleshoot & $200 to fix--maybe! I quess that light doesnt bother me $300 worth. I remember it bothering me but that went away when I look in my wallet. Keep checking this web sight--lotsa good info. Zip me back if you have anymore questions. BTW after checking the haynes book it looks quite difficult to get to that connector.

Hey I have the same problems with my '94 truck. It's an extended cab 4x4 shortbed. This just started this week, intermittent horn, flashing airbag light once in a while, and also no cruise control. These must all be tied together somehow because they all work or don't work together. I will try to clean the connector or connectors in the steering column and let you know what happens. All fuses are OK.
I also have a problem with my clutch in cold weather, does not want to disengage. I had this happen twice before, bled the clutch and the problem goes away for a while until the next winter..... Any more info on this would be appreciated..... I think they had a bad batch of slave cylinders.....

Hey Tyler, forgot to mention I have a Gibson 3" exhaust system on my truck now. I had a flowmaster system prior to that, but it rotted out in about 3 years, so I would not recommend the flowmaster. The Gibson seems ok, much thicker. It is 14 guage steel I think. The sound is slightly louder and the engine runs a little cooler, I also switched over to synthetic oil once my truck was broken in so this may also contribute to the cooler operation. Also put in a K & N filter, works great. As far as mileage increase, I didn't notice any. These products do increase flow but I think most gains are at such a high RPM that I don't see them. The 300 is not exactly a high revving engine..... I never run mine above 3000 RPM, it has no power above that anyway. Hope this helps you out.

I contacted Clifford Research/Performance. Their phone number is (909)734-3310. They indicated that no supercharger is available. They did recommend the following:

1. K&N filter $200
2. Ignition 250
3. Headers 204
4. Chip 225
5. Cam ( springs, etc) 163
6. Throttle body 250

What is done to the throttle body? is a larger one installed?

Hope this helps.

The problem with your horn and your airbag is the "clock spring"/"sliding contact" is broken. Your airbag indicator blinks 3 times then two times and starts the process all over again right?! If so go to you local Ford parts dealer and get one. They are really easy to install. I had to replace one on my 93 F-150. You will need to get a steering wheel puller though. Also disconnect the battery and let it set for 15 minutes at least so the airbag system capacitor drains of power. Then pull off your air bag and your steering wheel. The sliding contact sits right under the steering wheel. Undo the screws and wires slap in the new one and install everything in reverse order. Problem fixed!

The clock spring cost me $100 from the local Ford parts dealer. I did some shopping around and was surprised to find the Ford parts department was cheaper than some other places. To remove everything and reinstall took me no more than an hour! It was really easy to do once I sat and studied the wiring and mountings of the clock spring. Just remember to disconnect the battery and let it sit for 15 or more minutes so the air bag capacitor will discharge. Don't reconnect the battery until you are done! It's easy to do just take your time and wa la! Oh before I forget you will also need I think what is called a torque screw driver set. They look like a screw but have a star "*" shape to them on the end. Kind of like an allen wrench set. You'll need this to take the clock spring off!
