Yup, I need a career change! Anyone in the autobody, mechanical world need some help, or know of someone looking for help? I am looking for a different line of work this winter. Willing to learn, have experience in many auto aspects, but no formal training... I can start from the bottom, if need be!

Pardon me for butting in, but the rear laneways in Calgarys' residential areas is where you should be looking. I don't know alot about Calgary, but I have seen with my own eyes this "other" society in Calgary. I don't know about the 2 north quarters of the city, but, you can get anything you need in the laneways in south Calgary for sure.
The same way I found work there. I knew one guy. He knew a bunch of guys. One of them knew a guy that needed wiring done on his Firebird, plus a helper to put a tranny in. It wasn't a race car, so I was elected to do the job. The same kind of thing happened with my brother in 95. There's lots of little jobs around if you ask enough friends.
Well, unfortunately, I am pretty new to the city, and don't know a whole lot of car people... maybe once I get my project car restored, I'll meet more???
I should have looked in the summer, when people are out with their cars...

Next summer, go to Race City in the South east. Don't start your project car at a speed shop. Start at a body shop. Once you get to know those guys you can pick their brains about mechanics. Do you know how to weld? You might be able to get in with an exhaust shop like Carline.
Well, even tho I have only been here a few years, I spent many of my summer weekends at Race City...
I just chat with people with the cool cars in the pits.
I just need more contacts, I guess...
Mark
More contacts would be good. Try going with the people you do know. Calgary isn't so big that you couldn't be introduced thruogh the guys that you know now. Toronto is cold compared to Calgary that way.
