I have a Warner t-18. My 65 shop manual says to use 30w engine oil in the manual trannies. Can that be right?

Does anyone know, can I use the more modern 80-90w synthetic oil made specially for manual trannies and rear ends?

30 or 50w motor oil works great! 80-90 will grind up your trany if it get real cold were you live. My 65 will not shift worth a darn at 20deg F with the 80-90 so i used the 50 and no problems. My old bronco's glove box lid had a tag from Ford saying if trouble shifting in winter use 30w.
Yes the newer thicker stuff will work but why waste the hp to turn that thick stuff.

PS: I also added a bottle of Tuff Oil.

 

Couldnt he use a full synthetic gear oil?
I did that with my 92 ranger. And it gets cold here (Minnesota)
in January.
