New to Forum

Hi I am new to this forum. I have traditionally been a Chevy man, and am very new to Fords. This is my first one. My truck is a 1989 f150 4x4 with the 5.8. I have been looking around the internet and it seems like it is difficult to find information the way I could with my k1500. I typed in my VIN in a VIN decoder and it told me that that the truck is a short bed when it is in fact a long bed, which I thought was weird. Also, I'm not sure what kind of transmission I have. I've only been able to count 3 shifts going up to about 60 mph, but the guy who sold me the truck said it was a c7 4 speed. Not sure how to identify this. Any help is appreciated and I look forward to getting more involved with these forums, especially on the maintenance side because I know she'll need some.

If you do not have an O/D cancel button on your dashboard, you have a 3-speed C6 automatic.

No such thing as a C7. Maybe you fat fingered the '6'. There should be a sticker on the driver's door jamb. On it are the codes for the paint, axle, transmission etc

Ah thank you I'll look at that in the morning. Thanks for the help. How are these 3 speeds in comparison to the GM 700R4?

The C6 3-speed is very reliable, however it's not very economical. Not only does it not have overdrive, but it doesn't have a lockup torque converter either.

I'd say comparable to a TH400. They have been around since the 60's
