5star feedback
Hello Guys/Gals, I am looking for feedback with those with a 5star tune on your v10. I have a 2009 f250 V10/4.10 combo. Thinking of putting a 5star tune on it mostly for towing. I tow a 5th wheel that weight 10,000 lbs plus a boat behind it a few times a year. Mileage isn't great, coming from a 7.3. Will a tune help, is it worth it? Tempted to go back to a diesel.
Thanks

I've had one on both my V10's and it does indeed make a night and day difference in towing and regular driving.
It's probably the best bang for the buck when it comes to increasing performance.
I really want to get one for my 2015 Taurus but keep dragging my feet. Part of the reason is I wanted to see a dyno sheet and they couldn't come up with one. There are plenty of v10 dyno sheets on their website though.

I've had one for years on my 2-valve V10 - the difference in shifting and throttle response is night-and-day.
If I remember correctly, 0-60 was around 10 seconds without the tune, and around 9 seconds with. I must admit, however, I think most of that was the improved shifting
For the 3-valve, I hear the difference in throttle response of the fly-by-wire throttle system is a HUGE improvement.

I'll admit there's probably some good improvements- I just don't perceive the need for increasing throttle response or general power.
Mine is a cargo van, and its gas pedal is very effective. Anyone else that drives it ALWAYS lunges the van forward upon first using the accelerator pedal (and then awkwardly apologizes and mentions how "hot rod" it feels).
minne feels like a hot rod running through the gears (5 speed automatic) at WOT. Although to be honest it feels less strong than it did 180,000 miles ago-- probably largely due to never changing spark plugs though.
I do feel like the shifts are a little too "cloudy" but usually I don't even think about it. My biggest concern with throttle response and power is that it's too effective and causestoo much cargo shift.
Ive literally wondered if mine already has a 5Star tune before I got it. I'm don't even know how I would fine out.

I have the 3v with 4.10s just with a handshaker. I'm actually on a trip across the country as we speak and im pulling a 10k pound cargo trailer. With the tuner (87 tow/performance) the powerband is definitely lower. I can use overdrive a lot longer before having to downshift. Personally I don't feel the need to even spin the motor past 3000 rpm with the tune however when stock being above that seems only natural. Biggest change for me was of course throttle response and off the line power.

They do write good tunes but I didn't get the same level of customer service that everyone here raves about I asked them several times to look at the tunes for 2 different trucks once I received a stock starndard answer about the torque convertor that didn't answer the question or really pertain to it other than the torque converter was the subject of my question then I sold that truck and got my current v10 figured I'd give them another go asked them twice to go back and review the tune no reply either time still good tunes I guess I just fell through the cracks who knows. Without looking at the graph I would assume those numbers are at the wheels after passing through an automatic transmission.

To tack on this thread...
I know that 5 Star says they put the 4th gear back into the shift schedule on the 5R trans, but, does anyone have first hand towing experience using the program? I'm looking for my truck to not go from 5th to 3rd on uphill pulls. Does this make a noticeable difference when towing?

Had an 01 F350 with a V-10 and 4:30 gears with the 5Star tuner.......what a difference.......now I have an 08 F250 v-10 and 4:10 gears with the 5 speed torque shift.....and debating on another 5Start tuner for it.........and am pulling a 12.5K 5th wheel.
Any want to chip in if it is worth it??
