Steering Issue
Hey guys, This is my first post.
2008 F350 FX4
I am having a steering issue, Truck will intermittently pull one way or the other. Truck will pull to the right so i will have to fight it with the steering wheel to the left, but if i steer too far left it will then start pulling to the left and ill have to counter steer right. Doesn't happen all the time, but frequently.
I checked the bearings and tie rod ends and think that they are fine.
My question is the 4x4 U joints. The driver side I can reach in and spin the U-joint freely regardless of which way the wheel is turned. Lock to lock the u-joint driver side spins freely. (hubs unlocked)
Passenger side U joint will not spin by hand unless the wheel is straight. If the wheel is turned i cannot budge the U-joint by hand. Could this be binding while driving even though the hub is not locked? Could this cause my steering problem?
I realize the passenger side axle is longer because the front diff is off center on the axle, did not know if that could be why i could not spin the u-joint, or if it was binding.
Thanks in advance for any advice I am a by no means a mechanic, but like to figure things out the best i can.
