Cleaning Assembled Short Block

Crank and pistons still in block. Any issue with using carb cleaner to "clean out" the internals prior to buttoning her back-up?

Thanks,
Bib

Why would you want to do that? Rust can form on the bare metal parts inside an engine in a matter of minutes and a coating of oil is the only thing preventing that. My opinion.. it is very bad idea.

I don't think it would be just real harmful(edit: if you are putting it together and re-oiling quickly), however, carb cleaner is a powerful solvent. I wouldn't want anything left in the crankcase that would cut my oil and affect the lube. I know it evaporates pretty quick, but it leaves that residue that retains a bit of the solvent properties. You might do better to just wipe the extra dirty bits with shop rags.
