2017 Raptor vs 2014 Raptor Drag Race
#2
So, the debate is kind of a misnomer. It's old vs. new. What was vs. what is.
I would hope and pray Ford made improvements on the Raptor after skipping a model year. They dropped the same engine in the new Raptor as in the GT 500.
What's more is the Raptor is 500 lbs. lighter than it predecessors, which have a 6-speed tranny. Again, thank goodness this truck performs better or it wouldn't keep up with the competition.
Still, a V8 is a truck engine. The "what if" factor is out there for many of us. What if Ford put the same R&D into the V8 as they're dropping in the V6? What if they had a factory twin-turbo V8 in a truck weighing 500 lbs lighter with a 10-speed transmission?
It MIGHT be a question we learn the answer to as Dodge, whoops, sorry, RAM, is dropping a supercharger on their V8 Rebel TRX (575 HP), which is still a concept vehicle.
What remains to be seen is there will allows be the boys who want to jack up their ride. I can't see that happening with the 2017 Raptor. So, there will always be a market for the V8; no need for tissues. It just depends on what your into and I enjoy aftermarket tinkering. What fun is an out-of-the-box toy? I want to customize!
