I have been searching the Web but can't seem to find so far my symptoms so here it goes. I normally have my truck plugged in but last night it only got down to the mid 40's plus I forgot about plugging it in went to start it up this afternoon and it fired right up but sounded like it had a big cam in it for about 5 sec or so then smoothed right out. Glow plugs and relay are original and have 260k on them. Just changed oil, fuel filter, and thermostat 2 days ago but started fine the next day but it was plugged in.

 

was it the romps? romp romp romp and then normal?

 

Yes exactly probably 6 or 7 romps then smooth

 

Mine does it also on cold start only.

 

It just started happening I have started it in low 30's sitting for 2 days not plugged in and it never did the romp thing.

 

Yeah the "romps" are pretty common. Most here will tell you to switch to full synthetic oil like Rotella T6 and that helps. I have been running that since I bought my E99 11yrs ago and never had the romps so I couldn't tell you if it actually helps or not but others here say it really does make a difference.

 

At 260K.......probably could stand a new set of glow plugs..........
