I got a call from a friend of mine who owns a '94 S-10 this morning who's truck had just dumped 4qts of motor oil onto the frozen ground. Seems his oil filter had come very loose and was bleeding itself to death. Didn't leak a drop 2 days ago (I had looked at it 2 days prior in -10 chill running for cooling problems) and had 1500mi on the oil change. Yes, it's a bit cool but this morning was above zero. Never seen or heard of such a thing before. wierd

Was his oil filter just changed? If so, look for Double gaskets.

I had a 1984 Impala one time (Issued to me) where the filter housing loosened itself up from the block and squirted out it's oil. The spin on filter was still tight. I was told that it was a common problem with a GM.
