'49 F3 power steering options

Helping an elderly fella with his 49 F3 and his steering issues. Long story short....he had purchased a power rack/pinion conversion and it has not worked out. The rack is from a 87 or so Ford Pinto and uses a collapsible double D link between the box input shaft and the steering shaft with usual universal joints as found in the Borgenson catalog. This link moves in and out as the axle navigates the highway and the body rolls etc. He is scrapping the whole rack idea and wants to go back to a normal power steering box application similar to the Toyota 4 Runner box conversion that uses the Ford OE connecting link etc.
Contacted the group in AZ that supplies a similar kit but they emailed me back to say that the kit would not fit a F3 application. So, am looking for advice from the forum members who may have had more experience than me with these conversions. First, is the F3 that different from the F1/2? Are the spindles the same F1-F3? I need a PS spindle as the shop had cut off the steering arm from the spindle to allow the rack system to function for starters.
Anxious to hear what can be done with this. He really wants to be able to drive his truck without concerns.
