cowl seal

At the risk of exposing my stupidity, which way does the cowl to hood seal go, lip up or down?

No worries... I left remnants of my old one during disassembly and then took a pic for reference!

Lip is on top.. like a "7" in profile.

I wonder if the clips line up only one way? Maybe that's why some folks say they fit and others say the clips are in the wrong spot. Sounds like something Ford would have done to make sure it gets mounted correctly.

yea, how hard would it be to print "This side up" somewhere along the length? But then we would have to be able to read Chinese too!

Yeah, I tried mine both ways and no they wouldn't line up either way. For the record, this one has two clips that still don't line up so i'll have to remove and reinstall them correctly.

I've replaced mine two times since owning my 71 truck an notice when ordering it by yr select.
Never had any problems with the clips lining up lip down. If lip was up it would fill with leaves & crap.
With lip down any debris will fall into engine bay or to the ground.

Finally found undisputable evidence of the correct way to mount it.

Wasn't that way on my unmolested 70...

My one-owner 71 F250.. the lip is gone but one can readily see where it was torn away...

What ever works for you I guess...

Well I'm really confuse now. That picture I posted was supposedly from a 71 Ranger with 315 miles on it. It was from the Fordification website. I'll guess I'll flip a coin at this point.

No confusion here think about it.

The hood folds down on it that why in your picture the lip is folded downwards proves it's upside down. An would drop leaves an bird poop into it to the point it would have to be cleaned out.

I tried to install a new one, when I pulled it away the clips would fall behind the firewall down into the cowl area with no way I have thought of yet to be able to retrieve. Have you guys had this problem.........???
